Sega Yakuza Producer – Would create a “completely different” Sonic

During their 60th Anniversary celebrations, SEGA published a series of interviews with various people from within the company.

Daisuke Sato, the producer for the Yakuza series was asked about which SEGA property he would be interested in working on, out of the ones he has never handled before. To nobodies surprise, he noted interest in tackling Sonic The Hedgehog, although it would be a “completely different Sonic” if he was given the chance.

Daisuke Sato’s take on Sonic

“It’s an IP that I haven’t come to before. In the sense that I want to try it, … well, Sonic. After all, when you hear Sega you think Sonic. I’d like to get involved once at least. But for me, the so-called Sonic is, well, if I were to do it, I wouldn’t do Sonic as it was. I would like to make a completely different Sonic.”

Would we like his Sonic title more, who knows, but SEGA needs to keep the blue hedgehog alive and well … 3D games have been a real problem for the company over the past decade or so. The only good 3d Sonic I have any recollection of where Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, but those have been ages ….
