Super Nintendo World (US) – Mario Kart ride waistline limit

The launch date of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood is rapidly approaching, and further information is now being released, with the focus of this material being on visiting limitations.

Waistline limit

The Wall Street Journal has uncovered a limitation that states guests of Super Nintendo World who desire to ride on the Mario Kart-themed attraction will be unable to do so if their waistline measures 40 inches or more. This restriction applies to guests whose waistlines are larger than average. Although Nintendo and Universal Studios Hollywood have not yet spoken officially on the matter, the limitation was put in place because of possible safety concerns. On February 17th, Super Nintendo World will officially open its doors to the general public.

“Our first priority is always the safety of the guests and the employees,” says Jim Seay, president of the ride manufacturer Premier Rides, which has built roller coasters for the Six Flags, SeaWorld, and Universal Studios parks. Premier Rides is responsible for the construction of roller coasters at all three of these theme parks. “In order to strike a balance between the two, we make a concerted effort to make the rides as accessible as is humanly feasible.”

However, bigger individuals may not be able to fit into attractions that have complete enclosure. “If you size every seat for the largest possible person, you’re guaranteeing that a smaller child cannot ride,” says Jim Shull, who worked for over 30 years as a Disney Imagineer, which is the term for the theme-park designers employed by Walt Disney Company. “If you size every seat for the largest possible person, you’re guaranteeing that a smaller child cannot ride.”
