Square Enix earlier revealed The World Ends With You The Animation – an anime adaptation of The World Ends With You.
While its premiere is still a long way off, you can now take a nice peek at the start of the series’ story!Square Enix has released a special 90-second preview for the show below – where protagonist Neku wakes up in a Shibuya that’s a little stranger than usual.
The World Ends With You: The Animation Story
The World Ends With You: The Animation will feature basically the same story as the original game. It will follow 15-year-old Neku Sakuraba who wakes up in the heart of Tokyo with a number on his hand.
After getting a bizarre text message on his phone, Neku quickly realizes that this isn’t the Tokyo he knows and that he’s trapped in some alternate version. To reclaim his life, Neku needs to win the Reaper’s Game by finishing a series of tasks around the city in a single week.
Series Director Kazuya Ichikawa said the anime team made a few changes to the story so that it flows better in the show format. He also stated that the Tokyo depicted will reflect the modern-day metropolis rather than the 2007 version.
For example, every flip phone has been upgraded to a smartphone free of charge!
The World Ends With You The Animation will be debuting worldwide in 2021.
