THQ Nordic buys Koch Media

The Swedish publisher THQ Nordic has bought the German developer, publisher and distributor Koch Media.

THQ Nordic is the company of the Swedish businessman Lars Wingefors. With his company Nordic Games, after the bankruptcy of THQ, he bought the brand name of the company and a number of well-known series, including Darksiders and De Blob.

In 2016 he changed the name of the company to THQ Nordic and the company has grown in high speed. The company is also developing everything for the Nintendo Switch, such as This Is the Police 2 and a remaster from De Blob.

About the purchase of Koch Media

THQ Nordic recently announced that the company has fully purchased Koch Media. Koch Media is a major distributor in Europe of games from Capcom, Square Enix, SEGA and Bethesda, but also makes games under the label Deep Silver.

Although Deep Silver does not currently have any announced games in development for the Nintendo Switch, the company has been involved with Nintendo’s platforms in the past. The amount that THQ Nordic pays for the acquisition is € 121 million. The group will receive 1,181 employees, a large distribution network, 14 games under development and a new IP shipment, including Saints Row, Metro and Dead Island.

For the time being, the teams from THQ Nordic and Koch Media will continue to work separately. Currently there are five announced games on the schedule for the Nintendo Switch. THQ Nordic, however, says that there are now 33 unannounced games in development.
