Various games violate gambling legislation in the Netherlands

Several games with lootboxes do not comply with the official gambling regulations as applicable in the Netherlands, the NOS has recently brought to light; https://nos.nl/artikel/2228041-populaire-games-overtreden-gokregels.html

Betting and Gaming Act

It concerns four games that can be played online. The Dutch Gaming and Betting agency has announced after research that games in which the contents of lootboxes can be resold, violate the law on games of chance.

The authority has not known which games are involved, only when the games are not adapted will this come out. The publishers now have 8 weeks to adjust their titles first. When the games are not adjusted, we can also expect some hefty fines to show up.

Which games?

It is plausible that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds among other things belongs to the four games. The game is very popular and there are trading places where content from lootboxes can be sold. Games like FIFA 18, DOTA 2 and Rocket League also offer gamers the possibility to exchange items for money.

Whether it really concerns these games is not clear since they are not all mentioned by name. Rocket League is mentioned in the original article but is not referred to as 1 of the 4.
