Wii Shop Channel down, issue or more?

The Wii Shop Channel has been having serious troubles for the previous several days. It seems that accessing the digital shop is now somewhat difficult. You’ll most likely be confronted with a blank screen when you first boot up. If you stay long enough, you can get an error code as well. There’s nothing that can be done about it except manually return to the home menu.

More then it seems?

Many people will probably dismiss the matter as inconsequential. After all, we’re now a couple of platform generations removed from the Wii. Since then, Nintendo has introduced the Wii U and Switch, with the latter being the company’s main emphasis (and the focus for many gamers).

Although the Wii Shop Channel officially closed in 2019, people who had already purchased material were still able to view it. That is not feasible at this time due to the existing scenario. Prior downloads will also be discontinued “at some time,” albeit no precise date has been announced.

It’s unclear what’s going on with the Wii Shop Channel at the moment. It’s conceivable that it’ll show up again in a few days. However, there is nothing on Nintendo’s maintenance website mentioning any difficulties or when everything would be back up and running. We’ll keep a close watch on the issue in the future.

Nintendo has revealed that eShop transactions for the Wii U and 3DS would be discontinued in March 2023.

If Nintendo’s announcement of the eShop’s demise for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U wasn’t awful enough, buckle up. Both the DSi Shop and the Wii Shop Channels were quietly taken down at 10:00 p.m. CST, with no prior notice, leaving already downloaded purchases and games unable to be redownloaded, with error codes 290502 and 209601 for both systems, respectively. Nintendo’s CDN, which is the download server that keeps all of the update and shop data, is still operational, indicating that just the storefronts have vanished.

Nintendo’s status page still claims that everything is working, but it’s unclear if this was a mistake, similar to last year’s eShop outage, or whether this is indeed the end of an era.
