9 Years of Shadows, a sincere Metroidvania project for Nintendo Switch, is being developed by Freedom Games and Halberd Studios. The release date has been set for the fourth quarter of 2022.

Many courageous people have attempted to enter the corrupted depths of Talos Castle, a long-abandoned orphanage where the curse originated. Except for one, all have failed. Europa’s daunting goal is obvious, armed only with her halberd and sheer bravery: approach the castle, uncover the source of darkness, and restore color to the plains before it’s too late.
However, Europa will not be alone on her quest. Europa meets Apino, a charming magical bear with the capacity to heal, cleanse the corruption, and defend his comrades, at her most desperate hour.
Apino can fire deadly missiles at adversaries, unlock locked doors, and protect Europa from ranged assaults while exploring the castle.
Acquire elemental armors to improve your fighting prowess. Master the power of lightning, water, earth, and fire to overcome a wide range of foes.
Use the elements to your advantage as you navigate the battlefield, surprise monsters while changing armors on the fly, and unleash powerful combinations. Michiru Yamane and Norihiko Hibino make special appearances as NPCs and creators of various songs set to 432hz, a relaxing frequency utilized in what is known as healing music. And music is more than meets the eye. In the shadows, hidden bosses with musical attack patterns wait to strike. Indeed, music is the thread that connects gameplay and plot; from collecting musical notes to playing a healing lullaby to replenish your health, music is everything but the game’s soul.
