Astroneer version 1.24.29.0 patch notes

System Era Softworks released version 1.24.29.0 of Astroneer for the Nintendo Switch. It has a lot of controller remapping options, as well as the ability to utilize a mouse and keyboard. It also has a lot of bug fixes.

Version 1.24.29.0 patch notes

Accessibility & Controls

This has been a long time coming, but we put in a lot of effort to implement (honestly…) basic control functions across all platforms. On the console, you may now utilize a mouse and keyboard, as well as remap a TON of inputs to truly tailor your experience. This was done mostly for accessibility reasons; if you’re a player that has to move buttons around to enjoy Astroneer, this is the one for you. It’s worth noting that you may now toggle several “hold” actions to ensure that you can play with less need to keep multiple buttons down for lengthy periods of time.

On a platform-by-platform basis, the menu has been changed to include distinct tabs for Keyboard / Mouse and Controller options (moved from the general Options menu where they previously lived)

In the Controller Settings tab of the menu, players may now remap controller inputs.

Support for mouse and keyboard has been enabled for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch users.

The ability to remap additional mouse buttons has been introduced.

On the controller, players may now toggle the Virtual Cursor.

Players using a mouse or keyboard may now toggle the Camera Orbit feature.

Furthermore, by adding Mouse and Keyboard functionality to the console, users will be able to utilize a number of peripherals as necessary. We put a lot of hardware through its paces (thank you, Q/A team) to make sure you can remap a lot of actions to any mouse button or keyboard input. These adjustments were also tested using the Xbox Adaptive controller, which should function well on both Xbox and PC. (Note: we didn’t test everything, so if you’re experiencing problems with a certain mouse or k/b, please let us know!)

Improvements that aren’t listed elsewhere

Enhancements to the audio

When slid inside the player’s bag while on, the T1 Oxygenator will fade off its music loop while staying functioning.

Improvements to the camera

The camera zooms in and out more gradually in confined settings, with fewer instances of quick zooming in and out.

When tracking the player, the camera now reacts intelligently to movement up and down hills.

When travelling at fast speeds, the camera no longer loses sight of the player.

Adjustments to the overall tune

Drilling Enhancements

The angle of the drill relative to the rover is now appropriately shown in the drill aiming UI. As the drill travels to align with it, the tilt indication on the drill UI no longer wanders.

Instead of increasing their speed downhill and exceeding the drill, rovers now maintain a constant pace while digging.

To prevent the rover from turning over or losing traction, drilling is now restricted between a maximum upwards and downwards tilt.

If the rover begins to point vertically up or down, drills are instantly deactivated.

Improvements to the Landing Zone

The player’s experience circling a planet and choosing landing zones has been improved to better communication and understanding.

Landing zones now include dynamic images and beacons to make it easier to find and pick them.

Landing zones now have tooltips that show when you hover over them or select them with your cursor.

Landing zones based on player-created terrain Landing Pads now have a distinct cylindrical form, icon, and label (including the initial pad).

A popup shows on gamepads informing players that they must pick a landing zone using the virtual cursor.

Update on Resource Bytes

All researchable resources have had their research timeframes altered to 5 minutes total, with Byte values updated correspondingly. Composite resources now have Byte values and may be researched in the Research Chamber.

Trophy and achievement titles and descriptions have been changed with new Japanese translations.

Bugs

As of version 1.24.29.0, the following is still a known issue:

As of version 1.24.29.0, the following bugs have been fixed:

General/Misc.\s[AS-17298] When the prerequisites are completed, cosmetics should now correctly unlock for Switch users. Note: Progress was not correctly preserved. It is now, however due to the fact that this repair will not be retroactive, users will have to repeat the processes in order to unlock their cosmetics.

[AS-7908] Even after putting the Geometric Triptych, the Sylva gateway engine should preserve its free oxygen.

[AS-16918] Fixed a problem with auto arms that caused them to get stuck if the slot they were attempting to deposit an item into was already occupied.

[AS-16975] It should be significantly less common for players to come upon a natural landing zone with no terrain underneath it.

[AS-17387] On Switch, a setting was fixed that might have led players to exceed their save size limit sooner than they should have.

[AS-6223] Camera collision has been added to unsolved EXO Dynamics Research Aid boxes.

Visual/VFX

[AS-6361] After going to another planet, the power indications on the Medium Battery were misaligned, which was finally resolved [AS-7685]. [AS-16673] Fixed an issue where the beginning of a tether line did not visibly connect to platforms. When a player leaves range of a spewflower, the poisonous cloud should now gradually fade rather than evaporating all at once [AS-8424]. When wearing the Bio, Retro, Control, Frame, and Wanderer suits, the backpack was floating a little too far behind the body, which was fixed.

Input

[AS-8851] On controllers, an issue where holding the menu button opened and closed the menu rapidly was fixed.

[AS-9092] It should no longer be possible for players to tie controls to the Windows key.

[AS-17274] The CONNECTION LOST popup may now be navigated using the Left Stick on the Switch.

[AS-17204] When you rebind controls to Right Alt, the menu should now display the relevant key.

UI

[AS-17044] Fixed a fault where the first mission “Planetfall” did not have a beacon for available awards in the mission log on the initial landing pad.

[AS-17206] The Trade Platform catalog hologram now has collision, so it should detect mouseover.

[AS-17418] Astropedia articles have been updated to use the proper Japanese typeface [AS-17388]. Fixed an issue where the “Unlocked By” phrase in the customisation menu wrongly referred to accomplishments when they may be unlocked in other ways.

[AS-4968] On Steam, I updated the Astroneer desktop icon to replace a previous version. To observe this update, players may need to remove their existing shortcut/icon and create a new one.

[AS-7359] Fix an issue in which text would expand beyond the boundaries of the Controller Disconnected popup box in some languages.

[AS-7773] When renaming a save on PS4, an issue was fixed; placeholder text should now be cleaned away once players begin inputting new text [AS-8185]. When joining a game using the Play Together UI on PS4, the instruction text would flow out of the box in different languages.

[AS-14672] The needed item is now referred to as “Medium Resource Canister” in the “Stuffed Storage” quest.

[AS-17146] Unlocked By text has been added to the Switch customization menu for the BNTY-HNTR visor and Power Suited palette [AS-8593]. On the Brightness and FOV Bias sliders, -0 is no longer an option [AS-17141].
