About ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree

Midgard is now without protection from the gods. It was once a thriving nation that was filled with magical monsters and beings, but now it is polluted by unknown powers and is rotting from the inside out. Odin’s handpicked protectors of the realm have been removed. In their absence, the holy Elder Tree that they pledged to safeguard is vulnerable to being manipulated and mistreated by others. Estra, the daughter of mankind’s last great leader, has the last shreds of hope that are left at this point in time.

The trip that Estra takes through Midgard is one that places a strong focus on story, and it is replete with Nordic mythology, enigmatic turns, and choices that have significant repercussions. Players will have conversations with a wide array of individuals and participate in Estra’s discoveries as she learns more about the history of her family and the impending danger that is sweeping over the realm.

Interactive Story

The route that Estra must travel is riddled with challenging choices and persons that cannot be trusted, both of which have the potential to misguide her. Her tale is connected with the player’s capacity to differentiate between reality and fiction, as well as deciding what is appropriate and what is inappropriate. Stay out of combat, assist your allies, and protect your people, but keep in mind that the repercussions will fall on Estra’s shoulders.

Puzzles

The game requires players to solve puzzles that get progressively more difficult as they go through the game. These puzzles disclose insightful secrets, fantastical powers, and hidden passages. Although learning via trial and error may be helpful, having patience is essential. There are certain problems that do not permit making a number of errors, and there is always the possibility of failing. If you make the incorrect choice, you run the risk of losing the answers you are looking for.

When it comes down to it, violence isn’t always required, but when it is, ATONE’s battle is a beautiful ballet of sword and axe. Music plays a significant role, with each bout getting its own own theme music to accompany it.

Composer Luminist (a.k.a. James Shuar), an Australian artist, is responsible for the music and sound design of ATONE. He combines a synth-heavy soundtrack with the digitally damaged sounds of period-specific instruments.

The ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree downloadable game is available for purchase on the eShop for the Nintendo Switch.
