More than a year ago, the Nintendo Switch appeared. One of the games available during the launch was Zelda – Breath of the Wild. This combination works well, Breath of the Wild is the best-selling Zelda game ever.
The success of Breath of the Wild
That the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild was a very good game soon was known after the release. The reviews of the game were incredibly full of praise and the game achieved a Metacritic score of 97/100. That the game is not only well received by critics is clear from the new sales figures that Nintendo has announced.
The Nintendo Switch version of Breath of the Wild sold 8.48 million times in the first year. This makes it one of the more popular titles for the Switch. Besides this version there was of course also a version on the Wii U.
Nintendo also managed to sell 1.5 million copies on this unsuccessful console.
All about the numbers
In total, the game was sold 9.98 million times at the time the figures were announced. Because the game is still selling well, chances are that the 10 million has already been reached. This makes Breath of the Wild the most successful Zelda game ever when looking at sales figures.
Previous record
The previous record was in the name of Twilight Princess. This game appeared for the GameCube and Wii and sold 8.85 million copies together. The HD edition on the WiiU is not added to that.
