Breath of the Wild placement in Zelda Timeline

Breath of the Wild placement in Zelda Timeline

Fujibashi Aonuma and share why The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is so difficult to place within the Zelda timeline.

Hyrule Historia is a book about the history of The Legend of Zelda series. This book was published in 2013 and included among others the first official timeline of The Legend of Zelda series. It is unclear where the latest game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is within this timeline.

Interview GamesRadar

In an interview with GamesRadar The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild director Hideomaro Fujibashi and The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma where asked about the placement of this game within this timeline.

Fujubashi responded that they know the timeline has great value for fans, but they prefer to leave it to the imagination of fans:

I would not say that we not engage with the timeline. It is clearly something that we know is very important to people and they do a lot of research into it. But I think we do not really sit at the stage where we want to talk about where Breath of the Wild is in the timeline. I think it’s something we want to leave now to the imagination of people.

Aonuma added that they leave the placement of the game rather to the imagination of the fans, because they do not develop the game with the timeline in mind:

We published a book with the timeline, but we certainly got comments from players who say, “Is this real? I think it should be like this. It’s different. “And history is always a little imaginative. It depends on the person who writes the book. So that’s how we do it. It is not necessary that we come up with a game and think, “Oh, this is where it fits into the timeline.” Frankly, we that’s why lately we are afraid to say where things are exactly in the timeline. But we like to let things to the imagination for the most part.

So it does not tell much about the placement, but do you agree with both gentlemen, this has to be left ot the imagination / perception of the player?
