In the Nintendo Switch version of Catan, you will no longer be able to play with other people online.
Asmodee Digital can only do so much to change the situation. The only reason this feature is going away is because GameSparks is shutting down its servers. The online version of Catan is based on GameSparks, which is an Amazon service that is not part of Catan itself.
All the other parts, like single-player, will still be available. Asmodee will also lower the price of the game now that it can’t be played online with other people.
Asmodee on shutting down online multiplayer of CATAN
“Online multiplayer for CATAN on Nintendo Switch will be turned off on August 4, which is a direct result of GameSparks shutting down its servers. Amazon’s GameSparks is an outside service that is needed for online multiplayer games to work. The game can still be played by one person, though. After this change, we’ll also drop the price to 14,99 $/€. We’d like to thank the CATAN community for their help and participation.
Pandemic will be taken off the eShop on July 31. This means that Asmodee has made more games. The following is a statement about that:
As was said earlier this year, the Nintendo eShop will no longer have Pandemic after July 31. The first digital game came out 9 years ago, and we no longer think that the quality and reliability of digital games for Pandemic are what they deserve.
Because of this, we have slowly taken the current Asmodee Digital Pandemic games out of all digital stores. Existing owners, on the other hand, won’t be affected. Players who have already bought the game will still be able to play it and download it.
On Board Game Arena, you can still play Pandemic online, either by yourself or with other people. We really appreciate how much the Pandemic community has helped and been involved over the years. Keep watching!
