Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion – Remake or remaster?

Some people have argued about whether Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is a remake or a remaster. Square Enix isn’t just making the graphics look better; it’s also adding things like more voice acting, changes to the battle system, and more.

Even though it’s not clear-cut, creative producer Tetsuya Nomura recently said that the project is most like a remaster. But there was talk within the company about whether or not it should be called a remake.

Nomura said to Everyeye;

We didn’t know how to best describe the project, so we had mixed feelings about it. At one point, people also talked about whether or not to call it a “remake” or a “remaster.” I think this is more of a remaster than a remake, since the story hasn’t changed and the game is always the same.

On the technical side, however, the graphics have been completely redone, the models have been made from scratch, many scenes that were only subtitled in the original have now been dubbed, and the combat system has also been updated. We’re still not sure what word best describes the game, so we went with “reunion” for now. It’s really hard to explain because it’s more than a remaster but not a full remake at the same time.
