Cuphead Devs – Delicious Last Course Difficulty, Development time and more

Cuphead’s creator, Studio MDHR, has revealed further information about the game’s impending Delicious Last Course DLC.

This information comes from a Destructoid interview in which they got down with developers Chad, Jared, and Maja Moldenhauer, as well as producer Eli Cymet, for a hands-on preview and talk about the DLC. During the conversation, the team addressed the DLC’s complexity, extended production period, prospective physical release, and other things.

The DLC’s Fundamentals

After completing at least one of the Mausoleum levels, players will be able to obtain the DLC.

The plot revolves about resurrecting Ms Chalice with materials obtained from the DLC bosses.

Difficulty of DLC

These will be “the most difficult large bosses yet.”

“So the first game was like, what if every fight was the final boss of another game?” Jared says. What if every boss in the DLC was the last boss from Cuphead? It’ll be…everyone should be really pleased to see how much more we put into the Cuphead DLC itself.”

“difficulty levels…

We wanted to discover a new approach to balance things and give gamers additional alternatives. Having additional choices with weapons and charms, as well as Chalice’s move set, will compensate for certain regions of difficulty. You can actually exploit these patterns…these flaws to make the gamer considerably stronger in any given circumstance.”

Cymet on DLC Length: “If you sense reluctance in my voice, it’s not because we’re unwilling to put a figure on it…

Internally, this varies. I believe you’ll have devoted speedrun caliber Cuphead players, but I can’t answer to what their skill level can accomplish. The DLC…and I’m still playing it and utilizing Chalice in the main game…the DLC experience took me between three and four hours to complete. That’s a possible middle-ground response.”

The Prolonged Growth

“We may have revealed DLC a bit too soon,” says Chad. We intended to produce a very amazing sendoff…but things got a bit out of hand, and we had some scope creep. When we see the finished product, it functions well as a DLC product… We still think of it as a DLC component since it functions wonderfully.”

Possibility of Physical Release

Maja said it will arrive “eventually,” with more information in two or three months.

What Comes Next?

“Now that the DLC is complete, we’re in a fantastic spot for future games and other genres we want to explore,” says Chad. We’ll keep developing on the Studio MDHR look.”
