Cuphead – physical still happening, Delicious Last Course considered as standalone

Cuphead’s physical release was announced by Studio MDHR in 2019. However, the developer said at the time that it was waiting for The Delicious Last Course to complete development so that everything could be included on the cartridge.

We’re clearly far over 2019, and the new DLC is nearly coming. Studio MDHR’s initial goals, thankfully, have not altered. Maja Moldenhauer, executive producer and studio director, recently confirmed to Nintendo Everything that a physical release for Switch is still in the works, and that additional information would be provided “in the coming months.”

Moldenhauer’s statement:

“We can confirm we are intending to do a physical release, and keep your ear to the ground in the coming months — we’ll have more to talk about that, but there will be a physical,” Moldenhauer said.

During our conversation, we also got some intriguing responses when we questioned whether The Delicious Last Course was always intended to be an add-on or if the creators considered making it an independent game. Moldenhauer informed us that Studio MDHR did consider it at first. Moldenhauer elaborated:

“Yeah! There was a little debate at the start of the process in 2019, when we really put pencil to paper. But, in the end, it was appropriate for this part of the Cuphead saga. We’d always wanted Ms. Chalice to be a playable character, and that matched, as did the plot, so it simply made sense to offer it as DLC rather than a solo game.”

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course will be released on the Nintendo Switch on June 30, 2022.
