Denuvo – DRM initiative concerns discussed

Denuvo recently announced new DRM plans for Nintendo Switch, and now a spokesperson has responded to some of the concerns people have had.

First, the company says that the program was made because “publishing partners had a strong demand for it,” but Nintendo has nothing to do with it. It is also said that the game’s performance won’t change.

Spokeperson noted

“Because of NDAs, we can’t say the names of the companies, but we can say that publishing partners have asked for this solution a lot. Software companies and Denuvo work hard to make sure that gamers have the best experience possible. The protection is meant to not change the gamer’s experience, and it has no effect on how well the game runs. It’s the same with this new solution, when protection is only turned on in parts of the code that aren’t important for performance.

Denuvo also said that DRM won’t require online checks from players:

“We know that the Nintendo Switch is a portable console with limited online capabilities. Because of this, we made our solution to work completely offline, without any online checks.”

Emulation is one thing that will change because of this.

Denuvo says that its DRM will make it harder to play legally bought games on PC with Nintendo Switch emulators.

“As you know, pirates have used the idea that dumping a purchased game for backup purposes is a good reason to steal for a long time. Most players use emulators with ROMs that they got from pirate sites and don’t self-dump. And if they dump it themselves, they will need a console that has been “jailbroken.”
