Dragon Ball: The Breakers – less battles but plenty of DBZ

Dragon Ball: The Breakers, the latest DBZ game, isn’t all about the fights, but it will include plenty of themes that fans of the franchise will like. In a recent interview with 4Gamer, producer Ryosuke Hara discussed the forthcoming 7v1 asymmetrical survival game.

Ryosuke Hara 4 Gamer highlight

4Gamer: With everything from the time machine to Dragon Ball gathering and area destructions, we felt that the game is packed with Dragon Ball elements. Can you tell us about any difficulties implementing said Dragon Ball elements into the game design? What about any content that you weren’t able to implement?

Ryosuke Hara: “Up until now, many Dragon Ball games focused on battles. However, for Dragon Ball: The Breakers, you can say that it was easy to implement DBZ elements into the gameplay because you’re not directly involved in the battles. You’ll use ‘Transform’ to change yourself into other objects, and there are also things like ‘Saiyan Pods,’ for example. Since the game isn’t about defeating Raiders in combat, work on the battle elements was one of the difficult parts.”

Producer Hara discussed balancing the game to prevent pay-to-win mechanisms in the same interview. The game will not support cross-play, meaning players will compete against other gamers on the same platform, according to the developer.

About Dragon Ball: The Breakers

Seven regular civilians are stuck in a Temporal Seam after being caught up in an unusual temporal phenomena; they share their confinement with a Raider, a dangerous opponent from another timeline with immense strength.

Their only chance of escaping the Temporal Seam is to use the Super Time Machine, but the Raider is on their tail and becoming stronger by the minute.

The Survivors’ cleverness fights with the Raider’s might in a race against time.
