Ed Sheeran’s Celestial will be featured in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The Pokemon Company and Ed Sheeran, one of the biggest names in music, have joined forces to make a new song called “Celestial.” This will be in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

The award-winning director Yuichi Kodama was inspired to make the “Celestial” video by Ed’s childhood interest in the franchise. Some of his favorite Pokemon are on it, like Pikachu, Squirtle, Machamp, Snorlax, and others. The video shows a normal day in Ed’s life with a Pokemon twist. The art direction is done in a unique “sketch” style by Yu Nagaba, which reminds me of the doodles Ed used to draw of his Pokemon as a child.

Ed Sheeran talks about Celestial

Ed said, “I have played Pokemon since I was in elementary school.” “My brother and I used to play different versions of the games and trade Pokemon until we both had a full Pokedex. I liked the cards, but I lost myself in the games. I loved the whole world they made, and it helped me forget about bad things in my life or at school that I wanted to avoid. I could escape into it, and I’ve been playing it ever since. I’m 31 now, but I still have the same Game Boy Color. When I’m on tour, I play Pokemon Yellow or Pokemon Silver on planes and trains. It’s such an honor to be able to put a song into a Pokémon game and also make a video with a throwback feel. I hope you like the song and the video. It was a lot of fun to make!”

“For us at Pokemon, working with a superstar like Ed has been a dream come true,” said Kenji Okubo, president of The Pokemon Company International. We’re all big fans of his, and he was not only a pleasure to work with but also really showed how much he loves Pokémon. Yuichi Kodama did a great job of capturing the pure joy and sense of adventure of a child in the video as well. Both of them really love Pokémon, which makes this a very special collaboration. We can’t wait to hear Pokemon fans and music fans singing along to “Celestial.” I hope everyone is excited to hear the track in the Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet games coming out later this year.”
