Fatal Frame director – Would like to remaster other games in the series

Makoto Shibata, director behind the long-running Fatal Frame series, has taken part in a recent interview with JPgames.

The first game in the Fatal Frame series made its debut on the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox back in 2001. Koei Tecmo recently released an enhanced version of the Wii U Fatal Frame game Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the horror series.

During the interview Mr. Shibata was asked whether Koei Tecmo had plans to remaster any of the older games in the phycological horror series, to which he replied that while they do not have concrete plans at present, the reactions that the team received when the remaster was announced exceeded the teams expectations.

So now Mr. Shibata is considering looking at the Fatal Frame back catalogue and possibly remastering previous games in the series.

As this title was prepared for the 20th anniversary of the series, we currently don’t have any plans to develop any other remastered versions, However, the reactions we have received from everyone have exceed our expectations, so I’d like to consider this moving forward.

About FATAL FRAME: MAIDEN OF BLACK WATER

“FATAL FRAME: MAIDEN OF BLACK WATER” comes to Nintendo Switch for the first time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the horror-adventure series FATAL FRAME.

The Story

Mt. Hikami was once revered as a spiritual place.

It housed a unique religion based on beliefs and customs of worshipping water as a deity and is said to have been a site of many gruesome incidents and mysterious phenomena.

This mysterious and intertwined story follows three protagonists—Yuri Kozukata, Miu Hinasaki, and Ren Hojo—as each of them explores the ominous Mt. Hikami, a place where many came to die, and the secrets it hides.

Gameplay

Players use Camera Obscura, a special camera capable of repelling vengeful ghosts and sealing away their powers, to explore Mt. Hikami and the numerous incidents that took place there in the past.

The story is divided into separate missions, and each mission is led by a new protagonist.

In addition to sealing the evil spirits that attack you, Camera Obscura can be used to reveal other things that can’t be seen with the human eye and will help in the recovery of lost items.
