Following its first release in 2008, Koei Tecmo said at the most recent Nintendo Direct that the survival horror game is returning. The new Switch version is being released globally for the first time, unlike the original Wii, which was exclusively available in Japan.

The enhanced visuals for Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse on Switch are one among the details Koei Tecmo announced. Since Wii was an SD platform, it naturally indicates a greater resolution, but the images themselves have also been improved. The lighting seems to have altered, and the textures and character models have all been updated.

About Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

The classic Japanese horror adventure game is called “FATAL FRAME / PROJECT ZERO: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse.” The girls will use the moonlight and a dim flashlight to look for clues as they investigate the western-style homes and deserted hospitals on Rgetsu Isle. The plot develops as the girls unearth artifacts like old newspaper stories and notes that aid in understanding the island’s mysterious history. The girls will run across many ghosts as they are wandering.

They will need to employ the Camera Obscura, a staple of the Fatal Frame genre, to fend off hostile spirits while photographing them to lock their power. The ladies will need to upgrade stronger lenses and switch out various films throughout the game in order to catch the most potent ghosts. They will also need to use the camera to record “things that cannot be seen” in order to help them locate the proof they need to recall their haunted history.

The plot develops via “touching” locations that could catch your eye.

You will learn about the past when heinous acts took place via old newspaper articles and notes. You will also be able to piece together the protagonist’s forgotten memories and uncover the truth.

It has a new photo mode.

In the recently introduced picture mode, you may freely position characters and ghosts for eerie recollections; you can even accidentally capture an unexpected spirit image.

Novelty costumes

New costumes have been added, and the initial lineup of outfits has been somewhat modified.

For each platform, this game’s visuals have been upgraded. You may now feel a more realistic sense of fear thanks to improvements made to the representation of the flashlight’s light and shadows. In-game videos and character models have also been updated to improve the plot and characters.

Early in 2023, Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse will be released on the Nintendo Switch.
