Nintendo France revealed some fresh information on the success of the Nintendo Switch in the country, including the fact that it has surpassed a significant sales milestone.
Hardware sales
The Nintendo Switch has now sold an incredible 7.09 million units since its launch as of December 2022, according to the most recent figures that were shared by Nintendo France president Philippe Lavoué. This means that it has become the home videogame console that has sold the most copies of any product in the history of the market in the country. In contrast, the Wii, which held the previous record for lifetime sales in France, only clocked in at 6.3 million. Having said that, the Switch is a long way from being able to claim the portable crown, which is currently held by the Nintendo DS thanks to its 10.6 million sales.
Software sales
In the realm of software, Lavoué brought attention to the fact that the Pokemon series had an unprecedentedly successful year in France. Pokemon Legends Arceus was the best-selling individual SKU of the year at retail in France, surpassing FIFA on PS4 at the #2 spot to become the best-selling videogame of 2022 overall. Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet also made appearances on the list of the overall Top 10 best-selling videogames in 2022 in France.
