Hacker enables Controller Pak on Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 games

LuigiBlood, a known Nintendo Switch hacker, released a long-awaited workaround for one of the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 emulator’s most apparent faults, the absence of Controller Pak functionality.

The Controller Pak fix does not appear to work flawlessly, but it does allow those who are comfortable hacking their Nintendo Switch to gain access to some previously inaccessible features in Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo 64 games, such as saving ghost data in Mario Kart 64 or simply saving the game in WinBack.

Below is LuigiBlood’s informative tweet on how to activate Controller Pak support.

Supported already … well kinda

Controller Pak compatibility is already incorporated into the Switch’s Nintendo 64 emulator, as LuigiBlood points out; it’s just not turned on. You can enable Controller Pak support and utilize it in a limited capacity if you correctly input the above code.

The hack isn’t without flaws. Data saved using a Controller Pak on the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 emulator will not save correctly unless you make a save state at this time. The Controller Pak data will not be there if you leave the game and resume it. It’s an additional step you’ll have to remember, but it shouldn’t be a major obstacle.

Many Nintendo fans are dissatisfied with the status of Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo 64 emulation at the moment. Hopefully, the service will improve with time – as LuigiBlood points out, activating some of the emulator’s missing functionality does not seem to be difficult.
