Headcannon – Sonic Origins is a SEGA-developed product

Headcannon recently tweeted, “happy to announce that we have been working with SEGA to re-create Sonic 3 & Knuckles for their forthcoming Sonic Origins collection!”

However, the firm said in a series of tweets yesterday that the Sonic Origins compilation is “purely a SEGA-developed product” and that the company did not work on the actual collection. Headcannon, on the other hand, is well-known for creating the Retro Engine versions of Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Headcannon said in a series of tweets that they were “contracted to produce a Retro Engine version of S3&K as a separate project from Sega’s Sonic Origins.”

While it’s a little unclear, it seems that SEGA’s own development teams took over the Retro Engine and altered it to their liking, while Headcannon definitely played an important role in its development.
