Last year, after pressure came from multiple angles, in the form of both gamers and investors, Sony was forced to kickstart the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta.
PlayStation Cross-Play Beta is program that enabled cross-platform play for a select bunch of PS4 titles with Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
2019 – Still an issue
It’s been several months since Fortnite and Rocket League have had cross platform play enabled on the PS4. But a lot of other titles which would certainly benefit from cross play being enabled are still lacking the feature.
This has led to outrage amongst a lot of developers.
Hi-Rez Studios President Stewart Chisam has openly called Sony to “stop playing favorites” and enable cross platform play for SMITE and Paladins, both of which are on Nintendo Switch.
Hey @Sony @PlayStation. It's time to stop playing favorites and tear down the crossplay/progression wall for everyone. We have @SMITEGame, @PaladinsGame, @RealmRoyale ready to go when you are. https://t.co/KNDetpXPf5

Let’s hope Sony looks into expanding PlayStation Cross-Play out of beta as they call it so others can enjoy cross platform as well. We as gamers, developers and likely investors are waiting for you Sony, tick tock, tick tock!!
