IGN – No really heavy hitters beyond The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom this year

IGN has released a story discussing the Entertainment Software Associations study about E3 2023. The statement from the ESA included some information about Nintendo’s software release schedule for 2023.

Nintendo in 2023

The statement neither confirmed nor denied the report from IGN that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony would not be present at the rebooted E3 2023. Rather, it simply stated that it neither confirmed nor denied the report. After the much-anticipated release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in May, Nintendo is said to have a “light second half release schedule” for the Nintendo Switch, according to the information provided in the article by IGN.

This information is similar to what VCG has received from its own sources. This is leading to speculation online that the Kyoto-based business is probably aiming to introduce the successor to the still successful Switch system sometime in early 2024.

IGN statement

“IGN has it on good authority that both Nintendo and Xbox were originally interested in participating in the event, but that both companies were forced to withdraw from participation for reasons that were unconnected to the show itself. Since then, VGC has stated that Nintendo made the decision not to participate in the event owing to a light second half release schedule, which did not justify the event space. IGN is in a position to confirm this information.
