Platinum Games‘ Hideki Kamiya spoke with IGN Japan about a variety of subjects, including his desire for Phil Spencer and Microsoft to revive the previously shelved Xbox exclusive Scalebound. IGN Japan also interviewed Kamiya about the long-awaited Bayonetta 3, which will be published exclusively on the Nintendo Switch later this year. Players should play Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 before beginning on Bayonetta 3, according to Kamiya, who claims that having played the prior two games in the series would make the plot of the third game much more compelling.
Having said that, Kamiya claims that any Bayonetta game you begin with will be enjoyable.

“We created the narratives for the first and second games so that you could enjoy them regardless of whatever one you began with, and there’s no reason why you won’t be able to follow and enjoy Bayonetta 3 if you start with it.”
“However, I’m certain that if you’ve played Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2, you’ll like it even more.” So I’m hoping you’ll [play them] in order to prepare for the third game. I believe you will be missing out if you haven’t played the first and second games.”
