Killer Queen Black – November shutdown

Liquid Bit says that Killer Queen Black will be taken offline and shut down on November 30.

In a post, the company said that Amazon GameSparks will end on September 30. Since Killer Queen Black needs this service to work on the back end, it will stop working. It was also said that “moved mountains and spent a treasure to migrate to a different provider, but unfortunately, the task amounted to an almost complete rewrite of the game, and that’s just not in the cards for Liquid Bit at this time.”

Liquid Bit statement

Dear Killer Queen Black Players and Friends,

We’re sad to say that KQB will stop working on November 30, 2022, after three great years.

Nothing about this was planned or expected. KQB was built on top of Amazon GameSparks, which is the service that makes our game’s back-end work. Amazon decided to end this service on September 30th, which is a shame. We did a lot of work and spent a lot of money to switch to a different provider, but the task was almost as hard as rewriting the game from scratch, which Liquid Bit can’t do right now. We’re working on plans to make the game open-source, and if we’re lucky and get some help, it might rise again in the future.

We know that many of you who have spent so much time and energy playing our game and making the community what it is will be surprised and upset by this. We can promise that we are just as upset as you are.

Please know that we did everything we could to keep the online part going, but as an independent developer, we just couldn’t do it. We did, however, get an extra two months from Amazon so that we could keep using the service until November 30, so that our league play could finish without any problems.

Liquid Bit keeps moving forward, and we’re still working on our new title, which we hope to share soon. Rest assured that we will make sure that things like this don’t stop our work or shut down our online games in the future.

It’s been a crazy ride, and I appreciate everyone’s help. Many thanks. – Matt Tesch
