Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series – Remaster challenges

Ryo Ishida, the producer of the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series, has discussed the difficulties that were encountered during the remastering of Klonoa 2 in recent interviews.

The Switch release consists of two different video games. Because the collection used the Klonoa: Door to Phantomile remaster that was developed for the Wii, it is probable the game was simpler to work with. On the PlayStation 2 in 2001, however, was the last time we saw Klonoa 2 in action.

Remaster challenges on Klonoa 2

Ishida spoke to Retro Gamer on the fact that lighting was a particularly difficult challenge.

“The remastering of Klonoa 2 presented us with a number of important issues, one of the most crucial of which was adjusting the stage lighting. There was an issue with the lighting in select portions of the game as it was being ported from the PlayStation 2 version to the platforms used in the current generation. You may believe that all we needed to do was enhance the lighting in the whole region; but, because we also wanted to ensure that the intended atmospheres and moods from the original game were maintained, we spent a significant amount of time and effort modifying them.

The story of the game centers on its protagonist, Klonoa, who embarks on a mission to rescue the planet while taking place in a creative setting and featuring a diverse cast of original characters.
