Limited Run Games has announced that American Hero will be released in physical form for Nintendo Switch.
The game first released on Nintendo Switch as a digital download last year. The FMV game was intended for the Atari Jaguar CD, but it was never published. After so many years, Ziggurat Interactive ultimately went forward with the launch.
Limited Run Games is preparing a regular and collector’s edition for American Hero’s physical release. The latter comes with a tangible copy, a poster, a keychain, and a float pen.
About American Hero
American Hero is a never-before-released spectacular and memorable FMV game in which you play as the star of an over-the-top 1990s Hollywood action film. Get a babysitter for the kids because this game is a frantic, mile-a-minute frenzy of spies, dives, and gun-toting bad guys that will have you on the tip of your seat.
You play Jack, a gorgeous, jaded former intelligence officer plucked from his retired life as a strip club customer for one final assignment to stop the wicked virologist Krueger from unleashing a mind-controlling virus on the unsuspecting population of Los Angeles. Everyone is out to get Jack now that he’s on Krueger’s trail, and he’ll have to utilize his intellect, muscles, and mojo to survive long enough to foil Krueger’s plan. Your rash actions may either help or hurt Jack as he seeks to uncover and safeguard the sole scientist who holds the cure to Krueger’s lethal bioweapon.
American Hero was initially created for the Atari Jaguar CD as a “playable movie” with a breakthrough, more fluid presentation than the FMV games of the time. It has now been restored and remastered. Professional performers such as Timothy Bottoms (The Last Picture Show, Johnny Got His Gun), Daniel Roebuck (The Fugitive, Final Destination), and Musetta Vanderbilt appear in the game (O Brother, Where Art Thou, Wild Wild West). Timothy Bottoms reprises his part as the freshly recorded narration of Jack’s inner thoughts heard throughout the game for this restoration.
This restoration was constructed from the ground up with new game logic that fulfills the original game’s lofty promise. In addition to the extensive library of video, this version contains fresh voicework from actor Timothy Bottoms to complete the original screenplay and, for the first time, complete the American Hero experience.
