Lollipop Chainsaw remake in development

The funny and over-the-top Lollipop Chainsaw is being redone for consoles, according to recent reports. The game was released in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by the amazing team at Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games, who are known for creating excellent and crazy action-based games.

Yoshimi Yasuda, the producer of Lollipop Chainsaw, said in a statement that he and other members of the team bought the IP from Kadokawa Games and that Warner Bros would take up the distribution rights, as they did with the original. It is not stated which consoles are being targeted, however Mr. Yasuda said below that “they will be taking a more realistic approach to the visuals this time.” Lollipop Chainsaw Remake will be out in 2023.

Yoshimi Yasuda, the creator of Lollipop Chainsaw

I’ve been working on the Lollipop Chainsaw project for 14 years.

Suda51 and I were talking about making a new game when Lollipop Chainsaw was created.

We recognized immense promise in Grasshopper Manufacture’s idea, and in May 2009, only one month after Kadokawa Games was created in April 2009, we began production on Lollipop Chainsaw.

Because Suda-san was extremely busy with other projects at the time, I functioned as director and producer, assembling a combined development team comprised of workers from Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games and personally managing production.

As an executive producer, Suda-san reviewed the game design and oversaw the production.

In January 2010, with the help of a buddy who worked at Warner Bros., we successfully landed a chance with the Warner Bros. greenlight committee, and Warner Bros. became the publisher for the game outside of Asia.

In addition, a Warner Bros. senior management advised that we rewrite the game’s storyline and leave it to film director James Gunn, which we enthusiastically agreed to.

All of this luck led in Lollipop Chainsaw, which was published in June 2012, being adored by gamers all around the globe, selling over a million copies globally.

Unfortunately, a variety of reasons have resulted in fans being unable to readily play Lollipop Chainsaw, and gamers have been unable to access the game on current platforms for some time.

We, the original production team on Lollipop Chainsaw, value the game and did not want to leave it in limbo, where gamers that want to play it could not.

As a result, we acquired the intellectual property for Lollipop Chainsaw from Kadokawa Games and chose to create a remake.

We have already approached Warner Bros. regarding development and are receiving their assistance.

We must warn fans of the original game that, although the original crew is working on the remake, there will be parts that vary from the original.

For example, the first game included 16 licensed songs utilized in the soundtrack, but we are unable to integrate all of them this time.

As a consequence, save from a few licensed tunes, the soundtrack will be entirely original.

Furthermore, since we have access to consoles with greater hardware, we will take a more realistic approach to the visuals this time around.

In any case, our objective is to make it easy for players to enjoy Lollipop Chainsaw.

Please keep 2023 in mind for the game’s release.
