Xavier Manzanares, the producer of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, has talked about the game’s characters and the choice to leave out Yoshi.
Like in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Mario, Peach, and Luigi may all be played. Yoshi, on the other hand, is missing, and Manzanares has remarked on how the roster was finally decided.
Where is Yoshi?
While speaking with our friends over at Nintendo Everything, Manzanares revealed the following:
“When we began thinking about the team and the heroes, we didn’t want to go for the ‘Okay, we did it before, so we have to do it again’ approach and attempt to develop what we had in Kingdom Battle.” This is also true for the heroes.
We made the decision early on to go with nine heroes. We weren’t sure which ones, and we didn’t want to go with ones from Kingdom Battle since that’s against the rules. We talked about it, and we still believe that because it isn’t a direct sequel, players will be more interested and think, ‘Okay, the choices they made for the heroes and what they put in the game are logical because of the architypes and what they do in battle, and it’s cool, and the synergy is super cool.’
So, certainly, we broadened our horizons. That’s when we began thinking about this character named Edge. I won’t be able to discuss about her background or what she’s doing in the tale since it would be too spoilery right now, but Rabbid Rosalina is in the same boat. Then, when we discussed Bowser, we thought that would be fantastic.
It was all about making sure that each of them suited an architype in terms of fighting strategy and tactics, which is why we chose the nine heroes. We read a lot last year about expectations, what heroes would be there, and who would be there, and when we saw the response to Rabbid Rosalina, we were overjoyed since we had seen a lot of postings about that character. We were pleased with our choice.”
Along with Mario, Peach, and Luigi, their Rabbid versions will appear in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Home. Bowser, Rabbid Rosalina, and the enigmatic Edge are this time’s newcomers.
