Metroid Easter Egg in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Yep DK you are seeing that right. It has been found… finally. Some of you may already have seen this, but as we hadn’t covered it, we thought it was worth a mention.

After four years a new easter egg has been discovered in the sublime Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and it should be instantly recognisable to those Metroid fans amongst you.

Metroid Easter Egg How to

As Pocket Gamer reports a Metroid hatchling has been found floating in the background of Level 4-3, Amiss Abyss.

Players have to go through quite a process to make the Metroid appear. Players traverse the Amiss Abyss until they happen upon an underwater tunnel about halfway through the level. If you’re chasing this particular easter egg, you’ll have to traverse the tunnel, then swim back through backwards, this time dodging the dangerous obstacles that have suddenly appeared. Players will encounter electric seaweed, and will need to take damage to become invincible to it. Once that’s done, the Metroid will appear briefly in the background.

Well the level of details put into this by Retro Studios is just amazing and it makes us wonder what else might still be hidden in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
