Nine Sols planned for Nintendo Switch

The company behind Detention, Red Candle Games, launched a fresh crowdfunding campaign for Nine Sols. The project’s fundraising target of $105,900 has already been met, and it is slated for release on Nintendo Switch.

In terms of platforms, Red Candle Games said that the game would be released on “both the Nintendo and Sony consoles.” However, porting will not begin until the game’s development is approaching completion, and “because to the fact that Nine Sols’ development is in between console generations, it is impossible to present a complete list of supported systems at this time,” according to the press release. The crew does, however, already have a Nintendo Switch devkit.

About Nine Sols

Nine Sols is a “2D action platformer with fierce deflection-focused combat, engaging storyline, and a unique Taopunk background,” according to the game’s description. The summary below contains further information.

The gameplay in Nine Sols consists of fast-paced 2D action and exploration using traditional platforming concepts. The company also concentrated on creating an immersive hand-drawn universe with a new Asian fantasy backdrop, vibrant characters, and a compelling plot, given our history in delivering narrative-driven games.

Story

“Unify with the Tao…”

For millennia, New Kunlun, the Solarian’s final refuge, has been silent. The ancient gods entrusted a promised place to humanity inside this immense realm, which is permanently preserved by a system of holy ceremonies. Despite this, the majority of people are unaware of the facts of the world. When Yi, a long-forgotten hero from the past, is reawakened by a human kid, everything changes.

Throughout the game, you will accompany Yi on his vengeful journey against the 9 Sols, the deserted realm’s fearsome overlords, and smash any obstacles in your path with Sekiro-lite style fighting. Discover the secrets of an ancient alien species while learning about humanity’s destiny in a dark fantasy realm where every route is laced with peril.

Mechanics of Combat

We’ve invested a lot of time and work over the last two years testing and tweaking our primary combat mechanisms. When it comes to creating a fun, imaginative, and user-friendly fighting system, not only should the controls be fluid and responsive, but there are a slew of additional factors to consider.

As a result, we’ve focused our bouts on close-quarters combat and the use of deflection and charging assaults. The conventional side-scrolling action controls, on the other hand, haven’t altered, so you can still sprint, double jump, and wall leap/climb in the same manner you always have.

Moveset

Yi’s most potent ability is Deflection. Deflecting an opponent’s assault lets you to absorb and gather energy (Chi), which you may then use to unleash a spectacular charging attack. You may escape a variety of life-threatening scenarios with the simple touch of a button provided you have fast reflexes and exact timing.

After successfully deflecting an opponent’s assault, you may reverse or “deflect” the damage onto enemy targets by placing a Chi-filled talisman known as a “Foo charm” onto an adversary’s body during a charging attack and blowing them up with a spell.

Slash Attack, Dash, and Double Jump — The game includes the typical action platformer controls, so feel free to mix them up in fight.

Bow — To offer additional variety to the core battle loop, a long-range weapon will be added to the armory. Yi’s Godly Bow is a strong weapon that may be used in every fighting circumstance.

Bosses and Enemies

Monsters are meant to put a player’s ability to make the appropriate move at the right time to the test. While it might be challenging at times, the experience can be both fulfilling and rewarding after players are familiar with the aforementioned tools and understand the game’s primary rhythm.

Prepare to face a horde of ruthless ancient guardians and nasty beasts. To destroy these larger-than-life figures, be patient, use every instrument in your inventory, and combine it with Yi’s Godly Bow.

Your final test will be the 9 Sols of New Kunlun. Each boss has his or her own personality and fighting style, and it’s up to you to find out how to best beat them.

A Taopunk Universe

From the hand-drawn landscapes and sprite animations to the world setting components and narrative arcs, almost every aspect of the game has gone through several versions. We had a clear aim in mind: to combine Taoism with cyberpunk, fusing sci-fi themes with Eastern legend, but the real process has been difficult. The New Kunlun, our representation of a Taopunk universe, is the result of this challenge.

The New Kunlun’s several sections are mainly linked, yet each zone has its unique architectural style and atmosphere. Discover hidden mysteries and riches while while putting your platforming abilities to the test.

The Residents

To trade, acquire upgrades, and obtain new skills, talk to NPCs and engage with them. It’s critical to seize every available assistance in this desolate environment. More background tales and lores are discovered via talks with these colorful people.

Artwork made by hand

Nine Sols combines manga-inspired sequences with meticulously hand-crafted anime-style sceneries and sprite-based animations. Every frame is painstakingly hand-drawn in a classic manner, and we’ve gone to great lengths to produce the most appealing flowing animations possible.

Upgrades and Purchases

Meridian Talents and Abilities – Gaining experience and leveling up Yi allows him to get permanent upgrades and learn new skills. These enhancements have the potential to transform the game, so select carefully.

Jade and Passive Powers — When Yi is outfitted with jade, he gains a variety of passive abilities. These passive abilities might be useful in a variety of scenarios. Using the power of jade in your battles may provide you with strategic advantages as well as other perks.

Buy and Modification – Jin, a rare metal required for Solarian technology, may be used to purchase and modify items in the game. Jin is also utilized to get equipment improvements, such as improving Yi’s bow and ammo.

Sound Effects

Nine Sols will have a distinct sound that will not detract from the immersion. We want to merge traditional Eastern instruments and voice sounds with contemporary electronic synthesizers in a context that includes both sci-fi and Asian mythology.

We intend to provide visitors to our Taopunk universe with a pleasant, if experimental audio experience by fusing Asian cultural sounds with the game’s storyline.
