Nintendo began in 2012 with concept Nintendo Switch

Nintendo began after the release of the Wii U with thinking about the next hardware.

Last March, the Nintendo Switch appeared in stores. In an interview with Japanese site Toyo Keizai Online Shinya Takahashi and Yoshiaki Koizumi, show that Nintendo was already working a long time on the concept of Nintendo Switch.

From concept to Switch

According to Takahashi they started after the release of the Wii U by reflecting on the following hardware: Nintendo is always thinking about the next hardware. When the Wii U was released in 2012, we were already debating the concept of the next generation.

We had landed on two concepts that the Switch prototype would be just before we ushered in 2014. These two are two easy detachable controllers called Joy-Con and although the [mainly considered] a home console, it can also be taken outdoors.

Koizumi added that the Nintendo Switch is a good balance between two types of gaming audiences; Where we are aware of, is that the gaming population is divided into two. In recent years, we are in a situation where “people who want to play at ease, select smartphone games and people who often would like to game play on a PlayStation 4 or PC.” The idea of combining the good points of smartphones and home consoles, the result was thinking that a game can give pleasure to both audiences.

Whichever way you look at it the Nintendo Switch characteristics that both describe have made the Nintendo Switch an unprecedented success. We hope that this upward trend will continue in 2018 and beyond. Nintendo is  synonymous with gaming and that should never ever change!
