Nintendo clarifies what tears in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom mean

The next Zelda game for Nintendo Switch will be called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This news came three years after the game was first announced in 2019, Nintendo has only called it “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s sequel.”

After the name was said out loud, there was some confusion about how to say it. Many people thought that “tears” meant crying. But “tears” could also mean that something is being ripped apart.

Nintendo clarifies what tears mean

Nintendo has now given an official answer. The company says that the word means to cry.

In the Zelda series, tears have been around for a long time. The Sheikah symbol, which is an eye with a teardrop, is one example. Players in Zelda: Twilight Princess and Zelda: Skyward Sword have also been seen collecting Tears of Light and Sacred Tears.

People have made a lot of guesses about the title of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom over the years. Nintendo said before that it was keeping the name of the game a secret to avoid spoilers. But even though the title is known, it doesn’t tell you everything.
