Nintendo – eShop warns users if incompatible with Switch Lite

Nintendo has recently revealed the Nintendo Switch Lite as a purely dedicated handheld device, however, compatibility issues released games may arise.

Preventive measures

To prevent confusion and incorrect purchases on digital games that do not support handheld or portable mode, Nintendo confirmed that Switch Lite users will receive a warning when attempting to purchase such games from the Nintendo eShop.

Likewise, for games sold in retail, Nintendo noted that consumers should refer to the product packaging to check the play mode compatibility information. Nintendo also pointed out that Switch Lite users must look for the “handheld mode” icon on the product packaging or at the Nintendo eShop.
Here’s the game compatibility information note fron Nintendo’s website:

Game Compatibility

Nintendo Switch Lite can play the games in the Nintendo Switch library that support handheld mode.
For games that do not support handheld mode, players can wirelessly connect compatible controllers (sold separately) to Nintendo Switch Lite. If using separate Joy-Con controllers, users will need to have a device to recharge them, such as the Joy-Con Charging Grip.

To find play mode compatibility information for specific games, please refer to the product packaging or Nintendo eShop.

Just look for the “handheld mode” icon.
