Nintendo President – Boost appeal Switch Online

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has revealed in the recent Nintendo Q&A for 2nd Quarter FY3/2019 that the Kyoto-based company is looking for ways to boost the appeal on the Nintendo Switch Online service which launched in September 2018.

Nintendo has yet to announce subscriber numbers for their new online initiative.

Boost appeal

Our focus at this point is on boosting the appeal of the service. We need to further enhance the content of the service for the subscriber base to reach a certain size, so that is what we’re working on, with the understanding that the time it will take to do so will be measured in years.

Well with the additions of NES titles each month they have made a good step. If they keep that up with frequency they have now that would mean 3 titles each month. That sounds minor when you put it in to NES only views. But what if you do the simple math? 3 x 12 = 36 titles.

36 free titles a year is nice whichever way you look at it. Should it extend to SNES and other legacy consoles? Sure but that is up to Nintendo.

What would be even more cool was if this would forever be available through Switch Online. Even when we eventually move passed the current Nintendo Switch … but that is maybe just wishful thinking on my end.
