Nintendo reveals: Nintendo Lab

Nintendo reveals: Nintendo Lab

Nintendo yesterday unveiled Nintendo Lab: a new way to play with the Nintendo Switch using cardboard constructions. At this time, there where revealed two packages in this series.

Each package comes with a cartridge, cardboard sheets which you can press the required figures out of and other accessories. If you have put the cartridge into the Nintendo Switch, instructions will show how to build the so-called Toy-Con.

You can just fold and put together cardboard parts, there is no glue or scissors needed! If the Toy-Con works, you can combine them with your Nintendo Switch and play using them.

The first package whichNintendo announced, the Toy-Con 01 mix package. This pack includes five different Toy-Con: a model, a rod, a house, a motor and a piano. The second package is the Toy-Con 02 robot package.

Both packages will be available from April 27 at stores.

Get to know Nintendo Labo before the release

Yes you can! Nintendo has setup a true workshop Laboratory . You can sign up to attend one of the workshops at the Nemo Science Museum in Amsterdam. You can register here; https://www.nintendo.nl/Nintendo-Labo/Nintendo-Labo-1328637.html  but that has to be done BEFORE February 25 to be able to have a chance to participate

Our first reaction

Innovative sure what we expected .. totally not. And let’s be honest, we do not want to be negative about it because yes, we see it as something that appeals to a very specific audience. Therefore really all credits should be given to Nintendo.

But then you also mention the issue thereof; many people are going to see it again as a gimmick. The beauty of the Nintendo Switch from our point of view is still the unique experience that you can take your game with you anywhere or just play it at home. We feel Nintendo would have been better of making that experience even better by doing a reveal of Nintendo Switch Online or the Nintendo Switch Virtual Console. Those are elements that add something for all Nintendo Switch users.

If Nintendo had focused on that last part first and then cam with this reveal it would have fallen out so much better. But the fact remains that in addition to these words of positive criticism, the community have also shown their deep love for the innovative creativity of Nintendo.

If Labo is going to be a hit … in Japan … 100%. Here in the West, we have quite a bit more divided feelings. Personally, we do not see ourselves take the crafting route. But who knows, if it becomes a real hit than we might still get caught having to do so.
