Nintendo Switch firmware 5.0

Nintendo Switch firmware 5.0

The Nintendo Switch update to version 5.0 is available. Yesterday there was already suspicion that it would come soon. However, the update is not as big as you would expect.

And that is perhaps also a shame on the one hand, we would have liked to see the necessary major changes in version 5.0

New in firmware 5.0

For small updates, the number after the point is often increased, a so-called small release. For example, the Nintendo Switch could go from 4.1 to 4.2. Nevertheless, Nintendo found the update big enough to go to 5.0, a so-called milestone.

This is mainly due to updates in security that you do not notice as a user. What things do you notice as a user?

  • New avatar icons. You can now choose from twenty-four new icons. These icons come from the ARMS and Kirby series.
  • Use Facebook and Twitter to find friends. If you have one of these two accounts linked to your profile, you can see which friends also have a Switch. Those friends must therefore have connected their switch to one of those social media. So it must be easier to find more friends.
  • Changes in the app for parents. There are several new features for the app for parents. Games can be excluded from the child lock. Entering the PIN code is now done via the control stick instead of the touchscreen and watching in-game recordings can also be protected for children.
  • News can be filtered. From now on you can set whether your news has already been read or not. You can also choose which channels you do not want to see a news in the start screen.
  • Purchased online purchases appear faster on your Nintendo Switch System
  • In the controller options you can now see the colors of different pro-controllers.

Given the updates in this firmware, were you waiting for this? As said before, we expected a bit more for this 5.0 release.
