Nintendo Switch Lite – Completely undockable as it lacks key component

In order for the Nintendo Switch Lite to be as affordable as can be and more portable size, Nintendo had to make a number of changes from the original model.

The most significant of these being the removal of TV Mode. Hence it being not really a Switch in it’s essence.

While a lot of Nintendo Switch Lite owners have tried many methods to get the new console connected directly to their TVs, it turns out all of them may have been completely in vain.

Undockable forever?

Spawn Wave his breakdown of the console, he revealed that an important physical component which allowed the regular Switch to “dock” to a TV had been removed entirely from the Nintendo Switch Lite.

It appears that the hardware that is needed does not exist on the board, which is a semiconductor that’s required to interpret video. So unfortunately for anyone who’s wondering if that would ever be possible if it gets hacked or something down the road, it does not appear to be the case from what I’m seeing.

No surprise

This reveal should not come as a surprise to most, as if the goal was to cut costs and make the console as portable as possible, anything needed to support TV mode would have likely been the first to go.

While certainly a tough sacrifice for Nintendo it was perhaps worth it to provide a less expensive form and get keep the sales train going. As this is a great option for kids in general.
