Nintendo Switch Sports – Off to a very good start according to Nintendo president

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furkawa has remarked on Nintendo Switch Sports’ first sales success, stating that the game is “off to a very excellent start” globally.

So far, we only know that in its first week, the game sold roughly 200,000 physical copies in Japan. As of May 8, the game has sold 300,000 copies in the United States.

During a recent investor meeting, Furukawa was questioned about the first sales status of Nintendo Switch Sports.

“In every area, Nintendo Switch Sports is off to a great start. Players may enjoy sports via straightforward controls with the Joy-Con controllers in this title, and we feel it has the potential to extend the variety of customers since it is accessible even for individuals who do not normally play video games.

Also, when you play Nintendo Switch Sports online, it becomes much more enticing, and even people who don’t generally play games online can easily join and enjoy online matches. For example, you and a family member may compete against other gamers online.

The game was mostly acquired by customers who already had a Nintendo Switch system when it was first released. It is being adopted by customers of all ages in Japan. Consumers in their mid-20s who have played Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are the major demographic in Europe and North America. Splatoon 3 will be released in the current fiscal year and will be playable online as well. We’d want to promote these games throughout the year and convey the joy of online gaming to customers, particularly those who may be considering purchasing new gear.”

This week, Nintendo released an updated list of million-selling Nintendo Switch titles, which featured Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Pokemon Legends: Arceus for the first time.
