It has been verified by Nintendo that the most recent update for Nintendo Switch Sports has been removed. This decision was made in response to player feedback that the software was closing unexpectedly during the pre-match loading screen.
Known issue
It has been determined that the issue was caused by a bug, which is now being investigated by the company situated in Kyoto. Both online and offline play in Nintendo Switch Sports are affected by the bug. Nintendo announced that the servers for Nintendo Switch Sports will be shut down until a solution to the issue is found. This means that you will not be able to play Switch Sports online during this time.
A bug has been found in the #NintendoSwitchSports Ver1.2.1 update which causes the software to close during the pre-match loading screen. This is unfortunately affecting both online and offline play modes. We have therefore temporarily suspended the rollout of this update.

Additionally, they have stopped backing up the save data for the game. It is not obvious why testers were unable to find this particular vulnerability prior to the release of Version 1.2.1 on October 12th. The company has issued an official statement expressing its “sincere apologies” for the inconvenience this has caused Nintendo Switch Sports players.
