No Nintendo Switch price increase planned, but being monitored

The prospect of a Nintendo Switch price hike is often brought up when someone gets the opportunity to talk with Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. Furukawa has spoken about it several times, most recently last week at a Q&A session during a financial results briefing.

It was said that “there are no intentions to increase the price of our gear,” as we have heard previously. Furukawa did, however, provide a little window of opportunity by stating that “we will carefully evaluate as we watch the scenario moving ahead” since “the yen has dropped at an unexpected level for a lengthy duration.”

Shuntaro Furukawa noted

There are no plans to increase the cost of our gear at this time. However, the yen has declined at an unanticipated rate for a considerable amount of time, so we will carefully examine as we continue to watch the situation. It is true that the extended yen devaluation has reduced hardware profitability, particularly for Japan.

We continue to see inflation and other variables in the same way. We will continue to keep an eye on several aspects of our product sales even if we don’t presently feel there is a significant effect.
