Non-traditional Nintendo games coming in 2018

Nintendo has released a new and big title almost every month for the Nintendo Switch. Most of these titles involved existing and famous franchises.

You would almost think that Nintendo can not match this pace and the caliber of titles next year, because they are running thin on their famous franchises. But producer / game designer and director Yoshiaki Koizumi, in an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, announced that they have a number of surprises in store for 2018.

Nintendo in 2018 still wants to regularly push out first party games for the Nintendo Switch  but there will also be some non-traditional Nintendo titles coming, according to Koizumi.

Say what now?

What that exactly means is not clear as he did not shed anymore light on the matter so it could be anything. For example, are these games going to be  totally new IPs or are popular titles from the past making a comeback? Let’s go ahead and mention a Smash Brothers (always a bit controversial), F-Zero or even a Luigi’s Mansion sequel (3DS did not count)? It can be anything but we would also love to see, for example, a Donkey Kong or Pikmin game sooner then later on the Nintendo Switch.

In addition, NintendoReporters is a fan of how Nintendo is pushing out the bigger titles on the Nintendo Switch. They now spread titles over the year, something that is good for Nintendo in terms of sales figures, but something that also gives gamers more opportunity to work from game to game. Take Zelda BotW as an example, because you need space to really dive into such a game.

In addition, the acceptance of DLC, no Nintendo is really growing up in that area (of course with some things that can still be improved upon) but we as gamers we simply can not complain.
