PlatinumGames officially announces Sol Cresta

PlatinumGames played an April Fool’s prank on everyone by “revealing” Sol Cresta, a non-existent sequel to the Cresta series of shoot ’em ups.

But this year on April Fool’s Day, the developer apparently decided to actually make Sol Cresta into the real game in partnership with Hamster.

Described as the first entry in their “Neo-Classic Arcade” series, the announcement comes alongside a new trailer which shows off the title’s retro-style graphics and gameplay.

The Japanese version of the trailer also says “Now In Development” as if to reassure viewers that its really happening this time.

Sol Cresta for real?

While there is every chance this is yet another April Fool’s joke, the footage seems to be a genuine game, along with listing platforms the game will be on. Not to mention delivering the same gag twice, and giving false hope, is sure to cause more problems than hilarity.

The trailer also states it will be part of the Neo-Classic Arcade Series Vol. 1. It may be this will be a bonus game to a collection of classic arcade games, or the first in a series of arcade sequels.
