Devolver Digital announced the release of Return To Monkey Island for Nintendo Switch during the Nintendo Direct Partner Mini Showcase.
This official successor to the iconic point-and-click adventure games will be released later this year for Switch and PC. This announcement was followed by a new gameplay video featuring the protagonist Guybrush Threepwood and Monkey Island in the new artstyle.

Return to Monkey Island is an unexpected and exhilarating return by series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the tale of the renowned adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, both of which were produced in conjunction with Lucasfilm Games.
Guybrush Threepwood hasn’t faced his rival, the undead pirate LeChuck, in a battle of wits in many years. Elaine Marley, his real love, has shifted her concentration away from governance, and Guybrush himself is adrift and dissatisfied, having never discovered the Secret of Monkey Island. Chat with old and new acquaintances on familiar islands under frightening new government. Back to Point & Click Swashbuckling: Bringing traditional point-and-click gameplay into the present day, brave pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands using a smart adaptation of classic adventure game controls. Pirating is made simple with context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an intuitive inventory system.
Embark in Archipelago Adventures: Navigate the sometimes-friendly confines of Melee Island, a familiar locale under new rule by leaders who have squeezed old friends and new faces. Explore unexplored territory such as the appropriately called Terror Island and the chilly outposts of Brrrmuda to make both friends and foes.
The thrilling conclusion to the Monkey Island series sees the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, who is joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway), and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge).
