Sea of Stars sadly delayed to 2023

Developer Sabotage Studio has said that Sea of Stars won’t come out until 2023. The game was supposed to come out on Nintendo Switch and other platforms this year.

This is what Sabotage says in a message:

As we get closer to a big milestone, the path to launch is becoming clearer, and here we are, with a lot of text and our logos at the bottom. Keeping in mind our two main goals—the quality of life for our team and the quality of the finished game—we can now confirm that Sea of Stars will be out in 2023.

We know it’s hard to wait, and we want to thank our community from the bottom of our hearts for all the support and good vibes. In the meantime, we’re looking at different ways to get everyone a playable slice this year.

With all our love,

Saboteam

About Sea of Stars

Sea of Stars aims to modernize the classic RPG in terms of turn-based combat, storytelling, exploration, and interactions with the environment, while still giving players a big dose of nostalgia and good old-fashioned fun.

When you press the action button at the same time as the animations, you do more damage and take less. Along with timed hits, combat has multi-character combo attacks, boosting, and a strategic “locks” system that lets you use different types of damage to stop enemies from using powerful attacks or spells. This is all done in an immersive way; there are no random encounters, no switching to different battlefields, and no grinding.

You can move through the world by swimming, climbing, vaulting, jumping off, or being hoisted up ledges. This is made possible by a navigation system that is based on platformer skills and doesn’t require you to move along a grid of tiles.

Our custom-made render pipeline lets us create a breathtaking world that comes to life by pushing the limits of 2D pixel-art games.

Dozens of original characters and storylines will take you on a fascinating journey. Sea of Stars is an RPG that explores classic themes of adventure and friendship, and it does so in a way that is sometimes epic, sometimes funny, and sometimes sad. It is also full of the twists and turns you’d expect from a Sabotage production.

If you need a break from your adventures, there are many places to hang out in the world of Sea of Stars. Sailing, cooking, fishing, stopping by a tavern to listen to a song or play the famous tabletop game “Wheels”…every system has been designed to offer an experience that respects retro classics while rethinking in some areas to offer a smooth and modernized experience.

The first funding for Sea of Stars came from Kickstarter in 2020. Then, during an Indie World Showcase at the end of last year, it was confirmed that it would be coming to Nintendo Switch.
