Over the last years, the world faced a shortage of semiconducters due to production issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had it’s effects on every product that requires such components, among which the Nintendo Switch.

Kyoto Shimbun noted that Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa said that the Nintendo Switch may continue to face supply issues continuing into 2022. According to Furukawa, year end sales for the Switch were quite strong, particularly for the new OLED model, which has led to concerns that Nintendo may be unable to keep up with the demand if the semiconducter shortage continues to affect Switch production.
