SNK – Tech limitations holding back ports of King of Fighters

The King of Fighters XIV and XV haven’t been ported to Nintendo Switch, but SNK would be interested in doing so.

Yasuyuki Oda of SNK said in an interview with Gamereactor that the company has looked into bringing both fighting games to the console. But it looks like technical problems are stopping ports from happening. Oda said that SNK “would love” to put both The King of Fighters XIV and The King of Fighters XV on Switch and that they are “always thinking about it,” but there are no plans to do so right now.

Why is it not coming to Nintendo Switch?

Oda said, “Yes, of course, if you have a Switch, you have a lot of our retro content and can play almost all of SNK’s fighting games. We even looked into this with King of Fighters XIV and XV.” One of the biggest problems with KoF is that you have to load all the resources between rounds and so on for your three characters. With the Switch’s hardware specs and technical limitations, it didn’t go very well. It really bothered us, we’d love to do it, and we think about it all the time, but right now there are no plans.

About The King of Fighters

The King of Fighters series, also known as KOF, is SNK’s most popular and well-known fighting game series. Its main selling point is the large number of characters and the unique “team” system, which includes characters from other SNK games as well as new ones.

The first games in the series were made for SNK’s Neo Geo video game systems. The series kept going until SNK stopped making Neo Geo games altogether in 2004. For the next few games, the Atomiswave arcade platform and then the Taito Type X2 would be used. Other than this, there are ports of arcade games and original

The King of Fighters games have been made for many different consoles, including SNK’s own Neo Geo Pocket, the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance, the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, the PlayStation and Xbox series of consoles, and even the N-Gage.

The King of Fighters XV, the latest main game in the series, was announced at the EVO 2019 finals and came out on February 17, 2022, for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows 10, Steam, and Epic Games (PC).
