Sonic Frontiers – Series next step for the upcoming 10 years

Sonic Frontiers, according to Sonic head Takashi Iizuka, should be regarded the series’ “third generation.” Furthermore, the title should be seen as the “next step for the following ten years.”

Iizuka made these remarks during an interview with GamesBeat. The blog inquired about Sonic enthusiasts and if it may be frightening to show off a new game. That prompted him to mention how the original generation of Sonic was classic, with side-scrolling gameplay, and how contemporary gameplay began with Sonic Adventure.

SEGA is now considering the franchise’s long-term future, which is where Sonic Frontiers comes in.

Takashi Iizuka on Sonic’s future

I’m always curious to see how people respond to the things we reveal and show them. They are, as you say, a fervent bunch. When we look back at prior games, we can see that the original generation was side-scrolling, with that traditional Sonic gameplay.

From Sonic Adventure forward, the second generation featured more current gameplay. What we’re doing now is moving forward. This is approaching the third generation. We understand that we’re offering them something fresh that may not make sense to them just now.

But we really wanted to consider where Sonic should go in the next ten years.

What type of games do we need to start developing to keep people interested in the future? Sonic Frontiers is the next logical step for the next ten years. We hope that our fans believe in us and love what we are offering them. We’re looking forward to the day when they can play it and really comprehend what it’s all about.

Sonic Frontiers will be available on the Nintendo Switch this Christmas season.
